Carlos Lagos

Carlos Lagos grew up in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where his family attended a church affiliated with Great Commission Latin America. In early 2014, Carlos began to feel a strong prompting from God to pray for Costa Rica — specifically for its people, its churches, and the leadership team in San José. He had no idea what God was preparing him for.

Just six months later, Pastor Carlos Gómez — who was leading a new church in Costa Rica — traveled to Honduras. He asked the church there if anyone would be willing to move to Costa Rica to help launch a Children’s Development Center. Without hesitation, all six Honduran pastors pointed to Carlos Lagos. Unaware of how his earlier prayers had already aligned with this moment, Carlos said yes immediately. On September 1, 2014, he moved to San José to begin the work.

In 2018, Carlos launched the HangOut ministry at the National University of Costa Rica, the country’s second-largest public university. Recognizing that many students came from financially vulnerable backgrounds, he began offering a weekly lunch and a place to rest, connect, and be heard. But more than meals, Carlos and his wife Ana offered presence — choosing to build trust and friendship so that students could experience the love of Christ through authentic relationship.

Since its beginning, the HangOut has become a safe space for dozens of university students — and many have come to place their faith in Christ as a result. Carlos remains passionate about reaching the next generation through steady friendship, open doors, and a gospel lived out, not just spoken.
